The Three Step Formula
Step One
To Like Yourself
Believe these things:
• My Life Has Meaning And Purpose.
• I am unique
• I’m as good as anyone
• What other people think of me is
less important than what I think
• My self worth is based on who I am,
not what I can do
• What I want Is less important than
what is good for me
• Owning things only seems to make
me more attractive
Think about these things:
• How lucky I am
• My strengths and abilities
• Other people’s problems
• Finding peace of mind
• Making the most of today
• Something beautiful
• My death
Do These Things:
• Read good books
• Develop a skill
• Talk to other people, and listen to
what they say
• Achieve the proper pressure
• Take part in projects designed to
help other people
• Exercise
•`Travel
Step two
To Like People Like You
Believe these things:
• I am a part of my people
• I am as valuable to my people as my
people are to me
• My people’s motivations are as
proper as my personal motivation
• I will get from my people as I give to
my people
• I will find myself through knowing my
people
• My people know me as imperfectly as
I know my people
• My people will be increasingly
important to me as I grow older
Think about these things:
• Finding ways to know your
people better
• Why your people do what they do
• Supporting your people
• Who are your people?
• How are you and your people alike?
• How are you and your people different?
• Who tells you how to relate to your
people?
Do These Things:
• Join them
• Volunteer for extra duty
• Learn the history and values of your
people
• Talk it up
• Go to bat for your people
• Become a loving critic of your people
• Share your people’s fate
Step Three
To Like People
Who Are Not Like You
Believe these things:
• Their ways make as much sense as mine
• But for accident of birth, I could be one
of them
• Who’s right? is the wrong question
• I may never agree with them, but I can
relate to them
• They are as attached to their way as I am
to mine
• The world would be a poorer place if they
did not exist
• Only by understanding Them do I come to
understand myself
Think about these things:
• What are the really basic differences between us?
• How and when did our differences start?
• How am I like them?
• Are they as uncertain about how to relate to me?
• What is really happening in my encounter
with Them?
• How will my children and theirs relate to
each other?
• What does knowing those who are not like
me tell me about myself?
Do These Things:
• Learn another language
• Visit ethnic communities; attend their
place of worship
• Eat their foods
• Study other cultures
• Put yourself in uncomfortable situations
• Feel good about not trying to change Them
• Don’t pretend to understand

Becoming A World Class Person
Participate in a cultural immersion alternative vacation experience while putting the "How To Like People Who Are Not Like You" concept into action, and work on Becoming A World Class Person.
Vision, Mission, Values
Vision: Give people everywhere opportunities to learn how to like people who are not like them.
Mission: Create cultural exchange experiences that use the How To Like People Who Are Not Like You material to facilitate learning for participants (singles, couples, small groups, families), hosts, and the communities where they live and work.
Values: All people everywhere are created equal. Each individual is unique and alike in many ways. To come to an understanding of this experientially creates peace and eradicates hate wherever put into action.

A World Class Person
This first post will be used to briefly introduce myself, Sarah Cool, and an idea that I've had. I'm a single mother of two beautiful daughters, based in Atlanta, Georgia. I've spent time traveling and living in Europe, the Dominican Republic and Haiti, besides my country of origin, the United States.
My favorite college professor, Dr. Ed Chasteen, approached me recently about how he could get his written material about How To Like People Who Are Not Like You, a simple Three Step System, into as many hands around the world as possible, for FREE. I jumped at the idea to help him create a spot on the internet where anyone could go and read, download, and print if desired, all of his written material. It’s a brilliantly simple way to first learn to like ourselves, then those who are like us, and finally those who are not like us. To me, it seems like a "no brainer" in creating world peace, one person at a time. In working on this project for Dr. Chasteen, an idea came to me.
Personally, my greatest desire right now is to find a way to share cultural immersion experiences with my younger daughter, Izabelle, as I did with my older daughter, Alexandria, when she was 5 and we lived in the Dominican Republic for a year. That experience shaped Alexandria in a profound way. Besides that, I long to learn more about people in other parts of the world, study languages and cultures, while doing some worthwhile work helping others.
However, in looking into doing something long-term internationally, I've run into the issues of not having my own funds to do so, and not having found organizations that are able cover travel and/or offer a stipend to cover basic expenses. Several organizations I've approached have told me I need to have my own money or find sponsors. So it came to me: create opportunities for others to experience something similar to what I want to do, provide it as a service to others, generate some donations that will help fund an experience for us, and be able to continue doing it from anywhere in the world. So the idea was born.
First, I offer a little background. I have considerable experience over many years coordinating short-term cultural immersion trips, first with Habitat for Humanity International to the Dominican Republic in the early 90s, then with an organization based out of Kansas City, Missouri called Transformational Journeys that offers group trips to Brazil, Honduras, Guatemala, Dominican Republic and Kenya, and most recently to Haiti for Beyond Borders.
Through all of these experiences, my own and those I've helped create for others, I've always felt that the most meaningful trips have been those when participants have been welcomed into the homes of others to stay with and share life with them and their families. It allows both the participants and the hosts to have a really rich experience, getting to know a great deal about one another, their cultures and their communities.
My idea is to create an arm of Hatebusters, Dr. Chasteen's organization founded to create an atmosphere of peace and quiet among racial and religious groups, that will promote putting How To Like People Who Are Not Like You and his Three Step System into action via cultural exchanges as alternative vacations for singles, couples, small groups and families.
Instead of staying at a hotel and doing a typical tourist type vacation, I will locate a person or family in the area where the participant wants to travel, likely someone I know or with whom I am acquainted, where they will stay for a week or more in their homes. Each experience will be uniquely matched to the desires of the participant and to the abilities of the host to provide space and time.
Travelers will spend a great deal less money staying and eating meals in someone's home, rather than in a hotel and eating out at restaurants. They will surely have a much richer vacation experience because of it. Both participants and hosts will gain insight into the lives and cultures of each other, while likely making life long friendships. Perhaps at some point in the future, the host will visit the home of the original participant, bringing the experience full circle!
Both participants and hosts will be encouraged to read the book How To Like People Who Are Not Like You in advance of their experience, begin to practice the Three Step System, and then participate in exercises together during their trip to help truly bring it all to life! If comfortable, the participants and hosts will share the material with their neighbors, friends, family, etc. to broaden the circle of those affected by the How To Like People Who Are Not Like You material while on the trip and even beyond the trip experience once completed.
As the coordinator, I will be responsible for:
In each unique case, I will work with the hosts and participants in coming up with a fair fee to the host families which will cover room/meals/ground transportation/etc. Donations for my efforts in coordinating these exchanges can be made to Hatebusters. Participants will be responsible for paying for their air tickets once I book them, visas, shots, and trip insurance.
Initially, I will approach those whom I know personally about hosting participants in order to build a base of host locations. I will then contact folks I know who, I believe, will be interested in participating. The beauty of this model is that it can be applied anywhere, nationally and internationally within and between countries. And I can operate from any location, as long as I have internet access.
Where do you see yourself fitting into this new adventure? Will you join me in Becoming A World Class Person? Please comment, offer feedback, constructive criticism, share on Twitter and FaceBook. The more input early on the better. If you would like to contact me directly, please email me at aworldclassperson@gmail.com or find me on Skype at cool.sarahs.
Thank you for reading and dreaming of a better world with me, where everyone is Becoming A World Class Person ... able to go anyplace at anytime and talk to anyone about anything and feel safe!
